Reticulations

Material used: Fine grained Spanish sandstone.

Reticulations are a ubiquitous network of anastomosing and inter-branching tubes and canals that occur in all natural systems ranging from lightning, to snowflakes, to water basins and deltas, to leaf veins, to body organs, to blood vessels, and to sub-cellular structures in the Golgi. These systems are governed by relatively simple rules, and are designed to maximize redundancy, thereby protecting it from collapse if key nodes are damaged. Unlike quantum fluctuations, which are highly random, these reticulate systems are always directional.
