SPACE AGENCIES are particularly sensitive to the issues of biofilms for health and bio- contamination reasons, and go to extreme cleaning protocols in their very defined and aseptic environments to try and ensure sterility. BIOFILMS ARE THE NORM. "In 2000, as a case example, nearly 7,000 US municipal drinking water systems affecting 10.5 million inhabitants failed to meet safe water criteria, on account of biofilms in the distribution systems." CHLORAMINE AND CHLORINE REMOVAL. "You can quickly and easily remove the chloramine from your drinking water simply by adding vitamin C to the water. You just need to add 10 mg of vitamin C to neutralize each liter of water." Certain activated carbon filter will also suffice. PURE WATER MYTH. "Nearly all large water purification systems can cause the formation of biofilm in the piping. This biofilm can spread microorganisms within the system and contribute to an increase in particles, bacteria, and the level of total organic carbon (TOC).
