Butterfly Eggs

Material used: Fine grained Spanish Sandstone

The butterfly egg can be found on the underside of many leaves in the spring, when these little creatures begin their arduous life cycle of metamorphosis into caterpillars and then pupae and then into the adult butterfly. After mating, the eternal cycle repeats itself. The egg and the pupae are very vulnerable to predation and parasites, and the future of these species hangs in that sessile gamble. They are little space capsules that are launched into the future.
