DEDICATION: A tribute to Jordi Carrasco, Palafrugell, Spain.
Fungi are enormously diverse and utterly bizarre creatures, some with as many as 26,000 types of sexes. They live everywhere and are more closely related to humans than plants, eating other creatures, breathing in oxygen, and not photosynthesizing. They represent very “different modes of being” (Wordsworth) and are a reminder of how little we know about life on our Earth.
