Serpent

Material used: Spanish alabaster.

DEDICATION: A tribute to Professor Louis Kunkel

The serpent in human mythology has a long mystical history. They are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. The ouroboros is both a symbol of eternity and the continual renewal of life, and a symbol of infinity when eating its tail. The exquisite repetitive patterning of the scales on the skin is a special case of tessellation in nature, which is hinted at in the colored section.
