The Gynoecium

Material used: Engraved glass.

DEDICATION: A tribute to Tessa ten Tusscher, Girona, Spain.

Flowers are the marvelously diverse sexual organs of plants. The Gynoecium (‘woman, female’, and ‘house’) is a collective term for the parts of a flower that produce ovules and ultimately develop into the fruit and seeds. The gynoecium is the innermost whorl of a flower. The core of its sexuality. The hope of the next generation of plants lies is in the gynoecium that is made in the flower out of modified leaves and stems.
