"HIVE MINDS": MULTIPLEXING 1,000 Human minds? Future digital divide? Human cloud exoselves? Real telepathy between humans? We could do it now, "But for a really stable, high bandwidth system in and out of the brain, that could take upwards of 15 to 20 years, which Naam concedes is optimistic". This is a dynamite article. ELECTRONICS VS CELLS: "computational capacity will grow exponentially in the 21st century...by 2023 computers will "run more than a billion times faster than the human brain". Furthermore, by 2030 computer capacity will "simulate the brain power of a small village...the entire population of the United States by 2048, and a trillion human brains by 2060". Drexler proffers that future super computers will be the size of a sugar cube and capable of 1021 instructions per second". But he forgets the head-start of billions of years of evolution. BRAIN-NET. “We cannot even predict what kinds of emergent properties would appear when animals begin interacting as part of a brain-net. In theory, you could imagine that a combination of brains could provide solutions that individual brains cannot achieve by themselves.” Such a connection might even mean that one animal would incorporate another’s sense of “self" "." A SUPERCOMPUTER project modeled on the human brain gets €1 Billion grant. But I am puzzled. The supercomputer has already been built, and it's in your noggin running on a fraction of one cylinder. It took evolution 1.8 million years to create the 85 billion nerve network. All we have to do is figure out how to use this living supercomputer, and to hook thousands together to solve big problems. Building machines is missing the point. " " http://lnkd.in/jkXQkc View in LinkedIn

FIRST ORGANIC COMPUTER. "A combination of brains could provide solutions that individual brains cannot achieve by themselves." This is beyond a giant step forward. We have to wait for the next steps, multiplexing human minds, mixed species multiplexing and problem solving. " " http://lnkd.in/q-HFBu View in LinkedIn

BRAIN ON A SILICON CHIP? We have made a kidney on a chip and why not a brain prototype? Instead we have Nature-Inspired design. " ""An international team of scientists in Europe has created a silicon chip designed to function like a human brain. With 200,000 neurons linked up by 50 million synaptic connections, the chip is able to mimic the brain’s ability to learn more closely than any other machine."" SILICON IMITATES THE BRAIN. Biomimicry. It seems a waste to pursue electronics when the glistening neuron has already completed the experiment. "IBM's TrueNorth computer chips contain memory, processors and communication channels wired up like the synapses, neurons and axons of a brain. A key idea is that the chips can be hooked up into vast grids with many thousands working together in parallel."" BIOBRAIN CHIP. "Draper, a spinoff from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and USF are using embryonic cells from rats, but researchers plan to use human cells in the future. The brain-on-a-chip combines several technologies, including an emerging field called microfluidics.DARPA recently awarded a contract to Draper through MIT. Draper is working on various projects such as a human-on-a-chip, brain-on-a-chip, liver-on-a-chip, and a kidney-on-a-chip.""
