DENIAL OF RESPONSIBILITY ON PROJECT 112. "The GAO scolded the U.S. Department of Defense's (DOD) 2003 decision to stop searching for people affected by the tests was premature. The GAO report also found that the DoD made no effort to inform civilians of exposure, and that the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is failing to use available resources to inform veterans of possible exposure or to determine if they were deceased." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Biological_Weapon_Testing View in LinkedIn

SECRET HUMAN EXPERIMENTS in the US have been funded by the US government, US military, CIA, and private corporations, and public outrage led to congressional investigations and hearings. In the case of biological agents, this includes reports secret infections of gonorrheal cultures, bubonic plague, herpes, malaria, hepatitis, cancer, whooping cough, yellow fever, dengue fever, encephalitis, beriberi, cholera, tuberculin, and influenza. Other potent chemical warfare agents were also secretly sprayed on military personnel. http:/http://lnkd.in/dvg_Mpu View in LinkedIn

SOVIET BIOWARFARE RESEARCH. "Even though they had just signed the BTWC, the Soviet Union established Biopreparat, a gigantic biowarfare project that, at its height, employed more than 50,000 people in various research and production centres. The size and scope of the Soviet Union's efforts were truly staggering: they produced and stockpiled tons of anthrax bacilli and smallpox virus, some for use in intercontinental ballistic missiles, and engineered multidrug-resistant bacteria, including plague. They worked on haemorrhagic fever viruses, some of the deadliest pathogens that humankind has encountered." http://lnkd.in/dnjsN5T View in LinkedIn

TOXIC BOUNTY. "In Britain, the 1950s saw the weaponization of plague, brucellosis, tularemia and later equine encephalomyelitis and vaccinia viruses, but the programme was unilaterally cancelled in 1956. The United States Army Biological Warfare Laboratories weaponized anthrax, tularemia, brucellosis, Q-fever and others." http://lnkd.in/dFHK9z5 View in LinkedIn

1972 BIOWEAPONS CONVENTION (BWC). "From the beginning, however, the BWC has lacked robust verification mechanisms, and a few member countries (most notably the former Soviet Union) are known to have violated the Convention. A decade long effort to develop verification mechanisms fell apart in 2001 when the U.S. rejected a draft verification protocol and withdrew from any further negotiations. The U.S. argued that the protocol would not be able to catch all cheaters and that it would put American biodefense programs and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries at risk. Most other nations disagreed." http://lnkd.in/dvUdaty View in LinkedIn

FREEDOM TO OPERATE. "Both the U.S. bio-weapons ban and the Biological Weapons Convention restricted any work in the area of biological warfare to defensive in nature. In reality, this gives BWC member-states wide latitude to conduct biological weapons research because the BWC contains no provisions for monitoring of enforcement. The treaty, essentially, is a gentlemen's agreement amongst members backed by the long-prevailing thought that biological warfare should not be used in battle." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Biological_Weapon_Testing View in LinkedIn

BIODEFENSE SECRECY."Because of their dual-use nature, biodefense activities undertaken as a hedge against technological surprise and the unpredictability of potential adversaries can generate significant uncertainty among outside observers about their true intent. This problem is most severe for threat assessment research, which is usually conducted in secret. Secrecy in biodefense is increasing, both in the U.S. and around the world. Secretive biodefense activities threaten to provoke a very real biological arms race." http://lnkd.in/dvUdaty View in LinkedIn

COVERT BIOWEAPONS R&D. "Nobody really knows what the Russians are working on today and what happened to the weapons they produced. Western security experts now fear that some stocks of biological weapons might not have been destroyed and have instead fallen into other hands. According to US intelligence, South Africa, Israel, Iraq and several other countries have developed or still are developing biological weapons." http://lnkd.in/dnjsN5T View in LinkedIn

UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM OF COVERT R&D. "As history tells us, virtually no nation with the ability to develop weapons of mass destruction has abstained from doing so. And the Soviet project shows that international treaties are basically useless unless an effective verification procedure is in place." http://lnkd.in/dnjsN5T View in LinkedIn
