ENTREPRENEURS, BEWARE OF UNSOLICITED OFFERS OF CAPITAL. I receive 1-2 solicitations a month from 'investors' offering large sums of capital, quite often from the middle east, with a diversification story, although they vary a lot. THEY ARE 419 SCAMS. Please do not be tempted, as they are very seductive and clever and thousands of people fall prey to them annually. They always ask for some fee processing payments upfront. Contact me if you have questions, as I have an x-Scotland Yard friend who is an expert on the subject. Avoid at all costs! View in LinkedIn

ADVERSE EFFECTS FROM POLYTHERAPY IS MOST SERIOUS IN ELDERS, and people with chronic serious diseases; it is clear that without consolidated medical records in the US, this is an inevitable problem. Monitoring drug interactions in a patient is not a single physician's responsibility. Sometimes good pharmacists may alert the patient or caregiver, but this is hit-and-miss. If you or somebody in your family takes numerous meds, be sure to get medical advice. http://lnkd.in/N_Mw7M View in LinkedIn

THE AMERICA INVENTS ACT, or more appropriately, The First To File Act, reverses the age-old First To Invent system in the US. While IP lawyers and others argue about its merits, it is the new reality that tech entrepreneurs must grasp. Forget notarized notebooks. Now, when you have an invention, the pressure is on you to file that invention with the USPTO as soon as possible. This is a huge change, and companies must adapt immediately. If you have inventions lurking that perhaps were on the back-burner, evaluate whether you should file them tomorrow. http://lnkd.in/MwFevJ View in LinkedIn

THE CALIFORNIAN APP ACADEMY TAKES A 15% ROYALTY on first year salary rather than fees for a coding boot camp. This is a creative solution, and is success-driven. No job, no payment. Other academic institutions worldwide need urgently to get creative with their fees, especially to compete against distance learning, and encourage student education. http://lnkd.in/tKbC4x View in LinkedIn

BIOENTREPRENEURS WHO TACKLE NEXTGEN ANTIBIOTICS will be in very fertile turf, and likely get considerable government help. Serious bugs that are developing lethal resistance to antibiotics are on the increase, and the CDC has called the alarm. These organisms are adept at developing mutations to favor their survival from toxins designed to kill them. Biotechnologists are harvesting nature's own antibiotics in marine organisms which face the same battle, but have also evolved fast-responding systems to fight the clever bugs. Using nature's own solutions is the most promising approach. http://lnkd.in/QBGpNy View in LinkedIn

COMPANY CULTURE IS ALWAYS GENERATED FROM THE TOP DOWN. I have visited many hundreds of small companies, and within minutes of walking in i can tell a lot about the character of the leadership. It shows itself in numerous subtle and not subtle ways: the ambiance, the greeting, decor, notices posted, even the physical layout. The CEO always sets the tone, for better or for worse. http://lnkd.in/sSdQ36 View in LinkedIn

WHY WE HAVE PERMITTED WIDESPREAD USE OF ANTIBIOTICS IN LIVESTOCK REARING is an anathema to me. Equally, they have been over-utilized in medicine. Everybody has been aware of the dangers of overexposure to antibiotics, namely the formation of drug resistant strains. Well, we are now facing the consequences of our lax behavior. It is going to be challenging to bridge the unmet need given the time it takes to develop and test a new drug. The FDA may need to develop a fast-track pathway to help solve this challenge. AMERICAN HEALTHCARE NEEDS A DOCTOR. When about half of bankruptcies in the US are due to medical costs, and a big chunk of the population cannot afford health insurance, the picture is grim. For one of the wealthiest nations on the planet, this makes a big statement. That doctors are fighting any efforts to change this broken system comes as no surprise, because they are key stakeholders, along with insurance companies and healthcare delivery enterprises that stand to experience the greatest change. http://lnkd.in/6C-R7a View in LinkedIn
