CONFLICTS OF INTEREST. "Conflict over resource acquisition and resource allocation can occur as a result of different genetic interests within an organism. For example, genetic conflicts between maternal and paternal genes is hypothesized to play a role in the unusual eating behavior that characterizes the childhood diseases Beckwith-Weidenmann syndrome and Prader-Willi syndrome...(which result) from over expression of genes of paternal and maternal origin, respectively." https://lnkd.in/eknVNSM View in LinkedIn

PROBIOTIC IMPROVES MOOD. "A double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled trial found that mood was significantly improved by drinking probiotic lactobacillus casei in participants whose mood was initially in the lowest tercile." Other animal studies show similar effects of the microbiota on stress and mood. https://lnkd.in/eknVNSM View in LinkedIn

HYPOTHESIS: BACTERIA CONTROL HOST APPETITE. Gut microbiota affects the host appetite, since food selection affects the gut microbiota ecology; equally, stress in the host releases stress hormones that change the gut ecology. The growing list of molecules used by bacteria to control host behaviour exceeds 24. http://jb.asm.org/content/195/3/411.full View in LinkedIn

BIOME EFFECT IN TASTE RECEPTORS. Microbiota can modulate mouse host taste receptor expression in the mouth and gut, and thereby affect their food preferences. Cultured human epithelial cells' receptors could also be induced by microbiota samples. A brilliant review. https://lnkd.in/eknVNSM View in LinkedIn

BIOME REGULATION OF TASTE RECEPTORS. Sweet taste receptor genes in taste buds in the mouth can be down-regulated by bacterially-derived lipopolysaccharides, which modulates the transmission of taste input to the brain. This is a direct connection, at least in mice, between oral taste receptors and the microbiome. http://www.researchgate.net/publication/258443568_Ingestion_of_bacterial_lipopolysaccharide_inhibits_peripheral_taste_responses_to_sucrose_in_mice View in LinkedIn

"JANUS PARTICLES (JPs) are noncentrosymmetric spherical, cylindrical, or disk-like colloids feauring two phase-separated faces or compartments with distinct differences in chemical and/or physical properties. Over the past two decades, JPs have drawn widespread attention in soft matter nanoscience and materials science, as nanomotors, chemical or optical sensors, for programmable self-assembly and bio-medical applications." https://lnkd.in/eEJEhhZ View in LinkedIn
