CORPORATE VCs VS ONLINE CROWDFUNDING: a perspective. While many disagree with me, I continue to bet that Crowdfunding will dip its toe unto technology R&D companies such as Biopharma in the future. This is most akin to buying publicly traded stock in a company like Genentech. The consumer rarely understands the technical risks while making such an investment. http://bsr.london.edu/blog/post-124/index.html View in LinkedIn

SOME PREDICT THAT FUTURE UNIVERSITIES WILL BE DIFFERENT from today in response to economic and demographic forces. For instance, over 80% of professional degrees" "will be earned online, and competition for students will be worldwide. Also, the current university ranking system is likely to be replaced by a more transparent system. IF THE FUTURE IS "CUSTOMIZED WORK", it sounds uncannily like project-based work, or a synonym for outsourcing to consultants. If this prediction is even halfway true, the nature of the workforce within an organization will become more flexible and possibly more expendable. Combine that with the possibility that the office as we know it will be largely redundant, then the whole concept of work could be in for a big shakeup. http://www.jmorganmarketing.com/future-work-customized-work/ View in LinkedIn

J CRAIG VENTER IS THE MOST PROVOCATIVE SCIENTIST TODAY. In March 2013 he announced that he was close to hacking life and creating an artificial bacterium from scratch. His view is that life forms are DNA driven software devices; the genetic code has four bases, and the digital code two letter: they are very similar, he believes. If successful in creating new life using banks of computers, Craig will have opened a door to powerful goals of genetic engineering, including manufacturing biofuels in bugs and making bugs that eat toxins. This remarkable man is on a roll. View in LinkedIn

COLORADO'S "GLORIOUS FAILURES"" "CONTEST FOR ENTREPRENEURS acknowledges that many who reach for the moon may fall flat in the mud of their own backyard. They even hold wakes for failed companies. "TO SEE A WORLD IN A GRAIN OF SAND" (William Blake), applies to this stunningly beautiful image of a hydrogen atom visualized for the first time. Our two enormous universes of space are outer space and inner space, and in many ways we have made more progress exploring the former. I am always mindful of our profound ignorance of dark matter in the inner space, and of our somewhat quaint views of what contains our outer space. These two factoids remind me that our knowledge of our physical world is humble indeed http://lnkd.in/ecaveE View in LinkedIn
