"UK science minister announced that Imperial will host SynbiCITE, an innovation and knowledge centre backed by £24 million from government and industry, which will develop commercial applications for synthetic biology. The UK chancellor said last year that synthetic biology is one of eight key technologies that can expect greater investment, as a research strategy aimed at boosting the stuttering economy. THE NEW TOBACCO. "A pledge by food manufacturers to cut saturated fat levels is "a drop in the ocean" in the fight against obesity. Morrisons, Subway and Nestle are among firms signed up to the voluntary "responsibility deal" between industry and government. Almost half of the food manufacturing and retail industry - based on market share - has signed up to this latest pledge to reduce the amount of saturated fat in products.
