"JAPAN'S STIMULUS PACKAGE SHOWERS SCIENCE WITH CASH 2013. Science is a big winner in the government’s massive ¥10.3-trillion economic stimulus package. But the biggest beneficiary of the government’s stimulus is stem-cell research, especially that geared towards clinical applications. iPS CELL INITIATIVE IN JAPAN. "In 2012 Japanese scientist Shinya Yamanaka won the Nobel Prize for pioneering induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), technology he used to turn cultured skin and other cells into iPSCs. Scientists can now take primitive human cells and develop these into any type of cell in the body, even sperm. Japan created a $US 22Bn fund called the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), one of the largest ever public-private initiatives to fund technologies to stimulate their moribund economy.
