These are aimed at life-threatening diseases. The portability and cost advantages make these devices perfect for Point of Care (POC) uses, at the bedside in acute care, and in the field for developing countries. Its chemical engineering building is stuffed full of simulated mini petroleum reactors, and ultra high-tech instruments. The Red Cube building is the Innovation group. VALENCIA'S OPERA HOUSE is a stunning modern soaring blue and white creation that at times is a ship, a Greek helmet, or a spaceship. Typical of Spain's taste for dramatic contrast of modernity with antiquity, this remarkable building is one of a number scattered across this surprising country. My host at lunch confessed that her grandparents dined on Paella daily, and that only the Valencia Paella was the authentic version. DIAGNOSIS was the obsession of this California geneticist whose daughter's symptoms confounded him. He ended up cracking the rare disease genotype after a decade of hounding docs and eventually doing most of the sequencing on second-hand equipment. This compelling story amply describes how many parents just want to know a diagnosis regardless of whether there is a treatment. HI FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP (HFCS) is present in almost all processed foods and soft drinks because it's much cheaper than sugar. Consuming sugar triggers a normal insulin release and processing; fructose evades this and is metabolized into blood fats. Increased consumption has been correlated to obesity. Average Americans consume a whopping 38 Lbs per year. Unlike the US diet, HFCS has not replaced sugar in Europe. Little doubt this stuff is not good in our food in these quantities.
