Microbes fix atmospheric nitrogen, and solubilize phosphorus, which can replace the need for mineral fertilizer. Microbes improve soil aggregation, increasing both soil aeration and soil water holding capacity in ways that may reduce the need for intensive irrigation management or deep ploughing.”
