POOR COUNTRIES cannot afford complex water purification systems. Point-of-use UV purification has been shown to significantly reduce severe diarrheal diseases in children. In Chiapas Mexico, only 31% of water is fit for human consumption. UV kits are highly effective (99-100%) at eliminating parasites, bacteria and viruses, but in field use they were less effective.
