VERY LARGE SCALE, and well-funded international epigenetic initiatives in the “post-genomic era” (can that possibly be true?), are requiring giant open-source public databases, cloud computing, and data warehousing solutions. This is the emergence of the second Human Genome Project, which already returned a giant ROI, and initiated a new era of genomic and personalized medicine. Bioinformatics and deep data mining is at the heart of these new Knowledge Economy ventures, and will undoubtedly yield as exciting data and new medical applications as the first venture.
