PRIONS WERE CONTROVERSIAL FOR YEARS and the data was heavily debated. The scientist (Stanley Prusiner,who won a Nobel for his work in 1997) who championed the existence of prions famously said: THE ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE IS NOT EVIDENCE OF ABSENCE.
