BIOINSPIRED SELF-REPAIRING surfaces. Self-repairing materials are becoming a fascinating area, ranging from cements, to medical applications, and in part grew out of a fascination with biological self-assembly, common in many systems. BIOINSPIRED DESIGN may be macro or micro, ranging from material sciences to photosynthetic imitators. With millions of years of evolution as the experimental force, we have an infinite source of ideas and solutions to complex problems that we may apply broadly. NANOFABRICATION for chemical" "Catalysis and replication of the structural complexity of biological systems is key for nature-inspired technologies. The immense challenges of nano-scale fabrication is that the properties of materials on nano scale are entirely different from bulk properties. A glacier is not a snowflake. Atomic forces in nanofabrication become very real. Techniques that permit nanofabrication on a detailed level open many doors. " " http://lnkd.in/RrxjAw View in LinkedIn

ANTONI GAUDI was the Catalan modernist who aced architects worldwide by his radical and inspired designs. The Sagrada Familia (only commissioned by the Pope in 2010) would have been enough to give him worldwide status, but he completed many other major works, always inspired by nature, and conceived in immaculate 3D scale models. The complex geometry of his designs today requires a computer simulation to illustrate. He used an system of weighted bags hanging from wires to test the weight-bearing properties of his designs. http://lnkd.in/qQuqdv View in LinkedIn
