IT STARTED WITH DARWIN. Here is a stunning factoid. Before Darwin’s 1859 book, On the Origin of the Species, which suggested life arose in a warm pond, nobody in Western society questioned the origin of life, which was deemed to be God-given. The answer to this question was simply taken as a given. Ancient peoples the world over had creation myths, but these became suffused under the blanket of orthodox christian thinking in the West for about two thousand years. Genesis became our dominant myth. View in LinkedIn

FRAGMENT FROM NATURE focuses on a very unusual white paper by Professor Jason T. Wright about the state of affairs in exobiology, the search for extraterrestrial life, astonishingly endorsed by 126 prominent people from academia, NASA, SETI, observatories, and industry. This section starts by five of quotes from the late Professor Fred Hoyle & Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe, while at Cambridge University, the two truly remarkable scholars who set in motion the modern resurgence of Panspermia back in the 1970s; this topic is the sad mirror of humanity’s self-fixation that has (nearly) obliterated our curiosity. http://www.lifefromspace.com/Another-Beginning/Life-Cloud/ View in LinkedIn

THE TRUE BACKWATER. “Indeed, many in the public would be surprised to learn that the field is not part of the publicly-funded science portfolio, and how few scientists are actually involved in the search. The reasons for this are varied, but are ultimately social, not scientific.” https://lnkd.in/djnMhU6 View in LinkedIn

EFFECTS ON BIRDS. “Although there are considerable reports of magnetic field effects (MFE) on organisms, very little is known so far about the MFE-related signal transduction pathways. Here we establish a manipulative near-zero magnetic field (NZMF) to investigate the potential signal transduction pathways involved in MFE. We show that exposure of migratory white-backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera, to the NZMF results in delayed egg and nymphal development, increased frequency of brachypterous females, and reduced longevity of macropterous female adults.” https://lnkd.in/ggMJNzs View in LinkedIn

EFFECTS ON BEES. “The effects of a time-compressed simulated geomagnetic storm (TC-SGS) on the nest-exiting flight angles of another stingless bee, Tetragonisca angustula, are presented. Under an applied SGS, either on the horizontal or vertical component of the geomagnetic field, both nest-exiting flight angles, dip and azimuth, are statistically different from those under geomagnetic conditions.” https://lnkd.in/dv_w-gS View in LinkedIn

MAGNETIC SENSIBILITY. “There is evidence for robust interactions of weak extremely low frequency magnetic fields with biological systems. We suggest that the biological basis is likely to be found in the weak (∼50 nT) daily swing in the geomagnetic field that results from the solar tidal force on free electrons in the upper atmosphere, a remarkably constant effect exactly in phase with the solar diurnal change.” http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.3109/15368378.2013.809579 View in LinkedIn

SO ENDS this first of two weekends on the history of panspermia and recommendations for the future by 126 leading thinkers on the subject. Relatively speaking, it is only recently that modern man has shown any interest in looking for life beyond Earth. But governments have consistently squashed funding for these enquiries, feeding conspiracy theories that governments know more than they are disclosing. And there is an accumulating mountain of evidence supporting these vilified views. But for alien life to exist, on far away planets, our own myth of Creation for life on Earth must be completely wrong. View in LinkedIn
