FIRST PRINCIPLES. “To treat multipolar degrees of freedom from first principles, it is thus needed to treat strong local electron correlations, spin–orbit interaction, and the multi-orbital f electron character on an equal footing.” https://journals.jps.jp/doi/full/10.7566/JPSJ.87.041008 View in LinkedIn

F ELECTRON ORBITALS. “The electron orbital letters go in the order s, p, d, f, g, h, i, j, etc. At the fourth and higher levels, there are seven f orbitals in addition to the 4s, 4p, and 4d orbitals. Counting the 4s, 4p, and 4d orbitals, this makes a total of 16 orbitals in the fourth level. They have even more complicated shapes. s, p, d, and f orbitals are available at all higher energy levels as well.” (Great graphics). https://lnkd.in/eaQ4p_NY View in LinkedIn

THE PLAN. “Although time is a single degree of freedom, crystalline structures in time with the properties of 2D (or 3D) condensed matter systems can be created by a BEC bouncing resonantly between two (or three) oscillating atom mirrors.” (BEC = Bose-Einstein condensate). https://lnkd.in/e5UXiem5 View in LinkedIn

OFF-DIAGONAL RESPONSES. “As the multipole classification scheme can be generalized to systems characterized by a specific point group symmetry, multipole theory is becoming used for the classification of off-diagonal response phenomena, such as the electric-magnetic effect and the anomalous Hall effect in antiferromagnets.” https://journals.jps.jp/doi/full/10.7566/JPSJ.87.041008 View in LinkedIn
