READ THE PATENT OFFICE to find IP to bolster your own position! Most IP at www.uspto.gov is unlicensed, and for small upfronts and reasonable royalties tech entrepreneurs can start to create an "IP THICKET". An IP thicket can be a formidable hedge against competition. Forget ego, and Not Invented Here! Adopt the strongest ideas and patents. IP is at the heart of tech companies, so value it and constantly expand it. View in LinkedIn

IF THE ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY TECHNOLOGY MANAGERS (AUTM) IN THE US were to offer Distance Learning classes worldwide, the planet's tech entrepreneurs would be well served. Understandably, hospitals and universities who have not engaged in spin-out activities do not want to make fools of themselves, and often boot the decision to the board of directors. Using templates that are tried and true gets them out if that jam. For free! View in LinkedIn

I HAVE SEEN POSTER-CHILD EXAMPLES OF DREADFUL TECH TRANSFER OFFICES at some universities and hospitals worldwide, that would make truly shuddering B School case studies. For example, 90% stock ownership by the hospital, of a preclinical therapeutic, with anti-dilutive clauses, refusal of VC offers, and board seats. I have advised entrepreneurs in these cases to walk, because these deals are unfundable, and are only fit for really bad case studies of the Dark Ages. We must get a modern and level Playing Field to avoid self-strangulation. View in LinkedIn

IF UNIVERSITIES ARE AT THE HEART OF TECHNOLOGY CLUSTERS, THEN TECH TRANSFER OFFICES are the gateway for IP to find drivers and investors. AUTM (Association of University Technology Managers) in the US meets at least annually to share the latest licensing templates and thinking, and has created an excellent and efficient level playing field for licensing technology from universities. We need to globalize their findings and efforts to accelerate and modernize the tech transfer process outside the US to generate economic growth and jobs. View in LinkedIn

A LOVELY FUTURIST's PERSPECTIVE OF BIOTECHNOLOGY, and its potential impact, in historical context. As a species, we have raped and pillaged, consumed, and spewed waste mindlessly. But good news. We have the tools, the increasing pain of consequences, and the certain knowledge that our actions are unsustainable. By imaginative use of biotechnology we can solve the challenges of the society of tomorrow. http://lnkd.in/r-JgV6 View in LinkedIn

THE IMMORTALITY QUEST: PROBABLY A TOTALLY HARMLESS ADVENTURE that will inevitably uncover unrelated information, on account of money and effort spent. "But for life's infirmities, youth would not yield to age," (King Lear). He forgot to mention two other factors. Fear of death, and the hubris of youth. Check out the age of the entrepreneur. http://lnkd.in/JYkRv4 View in LinkedIn

RECENT CARTOON: TWO YOUNG PEOPLE STARING AT AN OLDER PERSON READING A BOOK. "What is she doing?"True within the next decade? I just sold 2,500 books that I loved in part of a big move. I simply did not have space. Do I miss them? Yes. Can I live without them? Yes. Can I replace most of them electronically? In most cases, yes. Do I like traveling with 50 books on a Flashdrive? Yes. I think that the writing is on the wall. http://lnkd.in/TjVEfz View in LinkedIn

THE US FOOD CHAIN REGULATION is clearly less than a D(-) grade and consumers should be outraged. The FDA spends inordinate amount of byzantine time regulating drug manufacturing (spme say causing drug shortages), but falls flat on its face with food, and PLEASE let's not talk about tobacco. Let's get real and reorganize this rogue agency! http://lnkd.in/i_JRpN View in LinkedIn

WORKING FROM HOME DOES NOT FIT ALL ORGANIZATIONS, but in many cultures it is very productive. With teleconferencing the social context of a face-to-face meeting can be retained, and the endless group meetings obviated. I continue to be of the opinion that the central office is a passing thing, and that the talent pool will be worldwide. http://lnkd.in/w9MP6v View in LinkedIn
