AUTOLOGOUS BIOSKIN has been a field of active investigation especially for patients with severe burns. The approach is simple: take a sample of the patient's skin and culture it up in sheets suitable to cover the damaged skin. The main challenges have been to replicate the order of the sebaceous glands and the anatomic complexity of skin. It is probably only a matter of time until these issues are adequately resolved. The human brain is the most complex system of neural connections and functioning biological entity that Nature has yet evolved. It is almost a Sci-Fi fantasy to imagine the possibilities. This is a phenomenal achievement, Back in the mid 1990's I tried unsuccessfully to raise money for a bio-kidney project, and at the same time a team at U Massachusetts was investigating a bio-pancreas (without success).
