MAGNETIC CLOAKING. "The sneaky science of “cloaking” just keeps getting richer. Physicists and engineers had already demonstrated rudimentary invisibility cloaks that can hide objects from light, sound, and water waves. Now, they’ve devised an “antimagnet” cloak that can shield an object from a constant magnetic field without disturbing that field." https://lnkd.in/exfa37a View in LinkedIn

NEXT WEEKEND the shocking theme of the changes in British flora and fauna continues. I have been visiting Paris and the countryside northwest of the city, and my impression is that the situation here is even more grave, with gigantic monoculture fields and marginalized woodlands. I head now for Catalonia, with its generous forests, crop rotation with alfalfa, and great strips of wild bamboo. View in LinkedIn

ANTI-MAGNET. "Although magnetic flux guides already exist, the authors’ new design has the potential to transfer magnetic fields over longer distances without degradation, and could be used to increase the storage density of magnetic recording media, or to create higher resolution magnetic images of materials and devices, among other applications." https://lnkd.in/evNgRhQ View in LinkedIn

GOVERNMENT PRICE SUPPORT. "The landscape, especially in eastern England, was reshaped from the traditional patchwork-quilt of small to medium-sized fields variegated with their hedges and woods and quirky corners, to vast ovaries of wheat and barley, Kansas-style." https://lnkd.in/esig3Kt View in LinkedIn

"MUCH OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY rests on our ability to send electromagnetic waves from point A to point B with minimal loss of energy and information. Infrared waves confined to optical fibers carry data over the internet, whereas raw electric power is distributed to large cities through high-voltage transmission lines." https://lnkd.in/evNgRhQ View in LinkedIn

MAGNETIC CLOAKS. "In 2008 John Pendry and colleagues at Imperial College London proposed such a magnetic cloak based on a metamaterial that has a magnetic permeability that is smaller than one in a given direction and larger than one in a direction perpendicular to it." https://lnkd.in/eUmSCNY View in LinkedIn
