THE KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY is not a new concept, and we have been immersed in a transformation into it for years; furthermore, societies globally have been investing heavily in it. But until it is named daily, we are blind to it. The Knowledge Economy is emerging faster every year, ever since we turned pure science into technology in a digital and genetic era. It is shaping a new workforce. New markets. New possibilities. Read about it, see the wood for the trees. This is transformative in every way we can imagine. View in LinkedIn

METACOGNITION: collaborative open system research, effectively linking every megacomputer that can do a billion calculations a second into a single network? Well, perhaps wishful thinking. The universe has never had the sheer computational horsepower that we have today. We are only limited by the questions we can ask. Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide) anticipated this conundrum, by reminding us that unless we understand the question, we will end up with the nonsense answer "42". View in LinkedIn

IN PERSPECTIVE: what key things changed human societies beyond recognition, and were a disruptive economic and social paradigm shift? (1) The Agricultural Revolution; (2) the Industrial Revolution; (3) the Digital Revolution; (4) arguably we are in the Genomic Revolution; (5) the Knowledge Revolution. Radical and far-reaching economic forces, and in the case of the last three, we have no idea what they will ultimately look like. View in LinkedIn

THE CRISIS has converged with the fruits of the great Catalan social experiment, the creation of a Knowledge Economy, after over a decade and billions invested. This turbulent juncture has only one avenue to avoid the death of the countless SME tech companies spawned: that with scale and speed, these cash-starved companies quickly learn how to tap into global markets for capital. This will take creativity and boldness. Unless the moment is grasped, a decade may be lost. There is too much at stake not to act. View in LinkedIn

A CULTURAL PRIMER to the Middle East, that everyone trying to do business there must read. Bottom line is it does not matter if you have the best mousetrap, if you miss the culture gap you will get nowhere. This is easy to do and very unforgiving. Every culture has different rules and norms, and you ignore or flaunt them at your peril. Especially if you are effectively seeking a long term relationship with an investor or partner. This can be far worse than having a bad product." "" "" "" " http://lnkd.in/xWD8sQ View in LinkedIn

ONE REPRESENTATIVE for a group of investors, especially if it is a large group of Angels, is essential for smooth investor relations. This is not a problem limited to Crowd-funding. It is not unusual for SMEs to aggregate 50-100 Angels, and managing them for any ratification issues can be a nightmare. This is best established early if your unit price per investment is low, and you know that you will need large numbers to hit your financing target. http://lnkd.in/UW_9rA View in LinkedIn

SEVILLE held the Biotech Annual Congress 2013 (BAC2013) where today I spoke about starting a successful Biopharma business. Here were the future employees and entrepreneurs in our industry, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. I listened for a while to a few jaded and tiered university TTO types rattle off renditions of 'Doom and Gloom', and a positively virtuoso 'Hell and Damnation' scenario. It was enough to make me want to go into the exciting world of accounting. Well, as usual, I was the contrarian, but I fear the Doomsters may have won that day with their long faces, and deathly stats. View in LinkedIn
