HIERARCHICAL THOUGHT. “We have a limited capacity in the neocortex, estimated to be about 300 million pattern recognizers, which are organized in a hierarchy. We create that hierarchy with our own thinking.” http://www.wired.com/2013/04/kurzweil-google-ai/ View in LinkedIn

MOONSHOT. “Google Brain—an internal codename, not anything official—started back in 2011, when Stanford’s Andrew Ng joined Google X, the company’s “moonshot” laboratory group, to experiment with deep learning.” http://www.wired.com/2014/07/google_brain/ View in LinkedIn

CHERRY 2000, the film (1987). "In the year 2017, Sam Treadwell lives in a society where romance, economics and technology have evolved into a state where relationships of all sorts are commodities. When he breaks his android wife, Cherry 2000, he hires E. Johnson, to guide him across a dangerous apocalyptic wasteland to an abandoned manufacturing plant where he hopes to find a duplicate model Cherry 2000 to replace it with." Memorable cult film. https://lnkd.in/e5BViSJ View in LinkedIn

BLADE RUNNER 2049. In 2049, bioengineered humans known as replicants are slaves. A replicant works as a "blade runner," an officer who hunts and "retires" (kills) rogue replicants; he finds a box buried under a tree, which contains the remains of a female replicant who died during a caesarean section, demonstrating that replicants can reproduce biologically. Due to fears that this could lead to a war between humans and replicants, it triggers a task to find and retire the replicant child to hide the truth. Compelling. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_2049 View in LinkedIn

BLADE RUNNER, the film (1982). "The film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles in which genetically engineered replicants, which are visually indistinguishable from adult humans, are manufactured by the powerful Tyrell Corporation. The use of replicants on Earth is banned and they are exclusively utilized for dangerous or menial work on off-world colonies." The trick is to spot the replicants. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner View in LinkedIn

PRESCIENT FILMS in recent years have played a part in forming the public imagination about Artificial Intelligence. The following are some of my personal favorites. View in LinkedIn

IMPRESSIVE AI. "One would be Deep Mind's DQN system. It essentially just wakes up, sees the screen of a video game, and works out how to play the video game to a superhuman level. It can do that for about 30 different Atari titles. And that's both impressive and scary, in the sense that if a human baby was born and, by the evening of its first day, already beating adult human beings at video games." https://lnkd.in/dKNnZ8G View in LinkedIn

MACHINE DIALOGUE. “Chatbots are computer programs that can carry on conversations with human users, often through an instant-message style interface.” https://lnkd.in/dXFUfPZ View in LinkedIn

“A CHATBOT (also known as a talkbot, chatterbot, Bot, chatterbox, Artificial Conversational Entity) is a computer program which conducts a conversation via auditory or textual methods. Such programs are often designed to convincingly simulate how a human would behave as a conversational partner, thereby passing the Turing test. Chatterbots are typically used in dialog systems for various practical purposes including customer service or information acquisition. Some chatterbots use sophisticated natural language processing systems, but many simpler systems scan for keywords within the input, then pull a reply with the most matching keywords, or the most similar wording pattern, from a database.“ https://lnkd.in/dXFUfPZ View in LinkedIn
