BEYOND COMPUTATION. “Penrose hypothesizes that: Human consciousness is non-algorithmic, and thus is not capable of being modelled by a conventional Turing machine-type of digital computer. Quantum mechanics plays an essential role in the understanding of human consciousness, specifically, he believes that microtubules within neurons support quantum superpositions. The objective collapse of the quantum wavefunction of the microtubules is critical for consciousness. The human mind has abilities that no Turing machine could possess because of this mechanism of non-computable physics.” https://lnkd.in/ds6KwVD View in LinkedIn

THE LITMUS TEST. “The Turing test is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. Alan Turing proposed that a human evaluator would judge natural language conversations between a human and a machine that is designed to generate human-like responses.” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test View in LinkedIn

AI + HUMAN HYBRIDS. “In a recent Abundance 360 webinar, I interviewed Bryan Johnson, the founder of a new company called Kernel which he seeded with $100 million. To quote Bryan, “It’s not about AI vs. humans. Rather, it's about creating HI, or ‘Human Intelligence’: the merger of humans and AI.” https://cdn.ampproject.org/c/singularityhub.com/2016/12/05/the-brain-tech-to-merge-humans-and-ai-is-already-being-developed/amp/ View in LinkedIn

DISTINCTIONS. “Cytoplasm and protoplasm are cell suspensions and provide a site so that biological processes take place. The protoplasm is bound by a plasma membrane or cell membrane on all sides whereas cytoplasm is the substance which is present surrounding the nucleus within a cell.” https://lnkd.in/duwHJ4Q View in LinkedIn

ETYMOLOGY AND USE. “The word "protoplasm" comes from the Greek protos for first, and plasma for thing formed, and was originally used in religious contexts. It was used in 1839 by J. E. Purkinje for the material of the animal embryo. Later, in 1846 Hugo von Mohl redefined the term (also named as Primordialschlauch, "primordial utricle") to refer to the "tough, slimy, granular, semi-fluid" substance within plant cells, to distinguish this from the cell wall and the cell sap (Zellsaft) within the vacuole.” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protoplasm View in LinkedIn

FRAGMENT FROM NATURE considers the cell interior, that jelly called protoplasm. Once thought to be a homogeneous colloid where biochemical reactions are simply random collisions, it became clear that this jelly is highly structured. Complex chemistry needs compartments, and protoplasm organizes these reactions. Protoplasm is the common material that is poured from jug to jug across generations, the same for a plant as a person, flowing across time. View in LinkedIn

THE HEART OF LIFE. “Protoplasm had been elevated to become the foundation of life by Thomas Henry Huxley and Ernst Haeckel...protoplasm enjoyed special status in biology. Huxley, Haeckel, and many others viewed it as the fundamental stuff of life. Investigating its properties, especially its motion, was akin to searching for the basis of life itself.” https://lnkd.in/dHJuR96 View in LinkedIn
