SO ENDS this second weekend on this excellent paper by Dimitra Ati on extraterrestrial versions of Darwin’s warm pond where hi energy sources can push chemistry to far-from-equilibrium reactions and cross the threshold from chemistry to biology. With increased interest in the news about extraterrestrial life following the military release of UFO video footage, it begs the greatest unanswered question of 21st century biology, namely, how on earth, or elsewhere, did life evolve. It is time to fund intensive research in this direction. View in LinkedIn

MARCH, 2015 FLARE. In the NASA video of the flare, the solar flare dramatically shoots out into outer space. In a still shot, it includes a scale image of the size of earth, a mere speck against the flare. If you think that the impact of Covid-19 is bad, imagine this. https://lnkd.in/eb6r2Ym View in LinkedIn

1859 CARRINGTON FLARE. "The so-called Carrington Event would be far more devastating if it happened today, given the greater reliance on electronics and the expanded power supply. However, thus far, it is the strongest storm yet recorded, though scientists think that a powerful CME from 2012 that missed Earth would have wrecked havoc for several years had it collided with the planet." https://lnkd.in/eD93wPS View in LinkedIn

CATASTROPHIC FLARES. “If a giant solar flare hit the Earth, it could knock out the entire power grid. The elecromagnetic pulse—or EMP—created by such an event could wipe out electricity for months on end, creating a global catastrophe. "This is a real and present danger," the White House's assistant director for space weather tells the Post. Something like that almost did happen in 2012, when NASA says we were nearly hit by two large plasma clouds. “If it had hit, we would still be picking up the pieces." https://lnkd.in/e2DG6re View in LinkedIn

SEPT 28, 2015, SOLAR FLARE. "At 10:53 a.m. EDT (1458 GMT) on Sept. 28, a solar flare caused a blackout in low-frequency radio communications over South America and the Atlantic Ocean, with weaker effects farther out. The unruly sunspot may prompt more solar flares, according to NASA." https://lnkd.in/ei_pJCJ View in LinkedIn
