BLOCK UNIVERSE. “Einstein also believed in an absolute determinism, imagining a "block" of events in spacetime seamlessly extended indefinitely. This seems perfectly true for the past, but there is no evidence about the future.” https://lnkd.in/gDaxUYAS View in LinkedIn

COSMIC SLIDING SCALE. “Nothing prevents our choice of the present as this plane, and nothing prevents this plane from expanding along the time dimension as the universe expands.” https://lnkd.in/gDaxUYAS View in LinkedIn

ALIEN VIEW. “It is, however, eventually relevant to his present. In fact, it is entirely permissible in relativity, though unfashionable, to foliate (slice) spacetime in order to provide a preferred plane of simultaneity equidistant in time from the origin, throughout the universe.” https://lnkd.in/gDaxUYAS View in LinkedIn

ALIEN OBSERVED NOW. “The fact that to such an observer our now is shifted does not necessarily mean it is shifted for us, since an infinity of such observers in random positions and velocities would cancel each other out. Such an apparent shift can only occur at a distance such that our now as observed by the alien is in our past and unchangeable anyway, so what is the relevance of any alien's observation to our present?” https://lnkd.in/gDaxUYAS View in LinkedIn

NO UNIVERSAL NOW. “Since this is true of all distant moving observers with different velocities, it is deduced that there should be no preferred present. I believe this is a philosophical prejudice, and Einstein was notoriously wrong in his philosophical prejudices.” https://lnkd.in/gDaxUYAS View in LinkedIn

THE PROBLEM OF NOW. “But, according to Einstein, an alien, for example, observing us in a distant galaxy will perceive our now to be shifted into our past or future, versus its neighbor alien observing us at a somewhat different velocity.” https://lnkd.in/gDaxUYAS View in LinkedIn

WIPED CLEAN. “Loss of that shielding, during the next geomagnetic polarity reversal, will potentially have devastating consequences for our highly integrated, technology-based infrastructure.” (Header reference to Blade Runner 2049) https://lnkd.in/g3Z5rDbb View in LinkedIn

FROM CHEMISTRY TO BIOLOGY. “There is no fundamental difference between a living organism and lifeless matter. The complex combination of manifestations and properties so characteristic of life must have arisen in the process of the evolution of matter.” (Oparin, A (1938), note “evolution of matter”). https://lnkd.in/dAtB9vYM View in LinkedIn
