KEY PROPERTY. "Spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking underpins a variety of areas such as subatomic physics and biochemistry and leads to an impressive range of fundamental phenomena." https://lnkd.in/e7ZujFy View in LinkedIn
COMPETING AGENDAS. "Provelella grows best in carbohydrates; dietary fiber provides a competitive advantage to Bifidobacteria, and Bacteriodetes has a substrate preference for certain fats." It is all about ecological balance. https://lnkd.in/es44Vig View in LinkedIn
KEY OBSERVATION. "L'univers est dissymétrique. Life as manifested to us is a function of the asymmetry of the universe, and of the consequences of this fact." (Pasteur). https://lnkd.in/ewEX4X6 View in LinkedIn
COMPETING AGENDAS. "Individual members of the microbiota, and consortia of those microbes, have been shown to be highly dependent on the nutritional composition of the diet." https://lnkd.in/es44Vig View in LinkedIn
PASTEUR (1848) was looking at some crystals of tartaric acid under the microscope, and observed that there were mirror-opposite types of crystals that when dissolved in solution rotated light in opposite directions. This was an act of pure curiosity. These observations led to a whole new field of chirality. https://lnkd.in/ewEX4X6 View in LinkedIn
NATURE IS ASYMMETRIC, or chirally-biased. Nature has clearly selected one of the mirror image forms of molecules for all life forms, but not the other mirror image. This charming review covers chirality in animals, shells, plants, and subatomic physics. https://lnkd.in/ewEX4X6 View in LinkedIn
NANOCOATED WOOD FIBERS that "are electrically conductive for future smart paper technology, applied as sensors, communication devices, electromagnetic shields, paper-based displays", switches and more. https://lnkd.in/e2YaM-3 View in LinkedIn
CELLULOSE EAP. "Control of disordered region, recrystallization, and orientation of cellulose are all issues that need to be addressed in order for cellulose EAP to fulfill its promise as a smart material." https://lnkd.in/eKk_wMN View in LinkedIn
