IONIZING RADIATION FOR WATER is rather at its infancy compared to its use in foods, and has been proposed as a candidate method that may have less issues than chlorine purification. KEY ISSUES IN WATER PURIFICATION by ionizing radiation relating to water contaminants, be it bugs or contaminating chemicals: are the breakdown products of toxins in water dangerous? What is the kill rate of microorganisms in water? Does removal of non pathogenic microorganisms matter? Is it cost-effective versus other methods? What trials have been done on long-term safety? THE PRECEDENT OF USE of ionizing radiation beyond cancer treatment gives us some backdrop on the research findings, especially when it comes to its uses in food purification of pathogens. It also starts to inform us of the general public's perfectionist of this method in general. View in LinkedIn

FOOD IRRADIATION is the biggest source of data on the effects of ionizing radiation on consumables. Unfortunately, food irradiation has had a bumpy history of non-disclosure, lack of trials, and public distrust. The issues for water treatment are likely very different. View in LinkedIn
