MX BY WHO (2004). A 48 hour LD50 of 230 mg/kg BW was established, with toxicological symptoms at over 200 mg/kg doses. 64 mg/kg in rats for four days caused significant liver enzyme changes and increased blood cholesterol. It is an extremely potent mutagen, and has genotoxic effects in vitro. It was tumorigenic in a 13 week rat study. ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT BACTERIA are selected for by DBPs, especially MX, because it induces faster mutations, which are the grist of fast evolution. "MX increased the resistance most observably in the selected DBPs, which was consistent with its mutagenic activity. The resistant mutants showed hereditary stability during 5-day culturing." ACTIVATED CARBON FILTRATION is effective at removing all regulated toxic byproducts including THMs, HHAs, bromate, chlorate and chlorite. SATURATED ACTIVATED CHARCOAL in water filtration lets through carcinogens. "In conclusion, high cytotoxic and genotoxic potency was observed in water sampled after GAC filtration and in the finished tap water."
