CONFLICTS OF INTEREST. "Conflict over resource acquisition and resource allocation can occur as a result of different genetic interests within an organism. For example, genetic conflicts between maternal and paternal genes is hypothesized to play a role in the unusual eating behavior that characterizes the childhood diseases Beckwith-Weidenmann syndrome and Prader-Willi syndrome...(which result) from over expression of genes of paternal and maternal origin, respectively." https://lnkd.in/eknVNSM View in LinkedIn

HOST REPROGRAMMING. There are many examples of microbes affecting their hosts' mood and behavior. As our microbiomes get thrown off balance by diet, pollution and stress, allowing undesirable microbiota to become dominant, these new players may adversely affect our own mood and behaviors. https://lnkd.in/eknVNSM View in LinkedIn

WESTERN DIETS, combined with increased pollutants, and stress cause the release of inflammatory molecules in the body. Inflammation is thought today to be an early marker of many diseases. Poor diet, pollutants and stress also negatively impact the microbiome, which plays a key role in maintaining host health, and leads to disbalance and pathology. https://lnkd.in/eAuv5UZ View in LinkedIn

CHANGING TASTE BUDS. "Our tongues appear to become more sensitive to fat if we eat less of it. And the more sensitive our tongues become, the less butter, meat, dairy, and eggs study subjects ate. We also get a blunted taste for fat if we eat too much. This diminished fat sensitivity has been linked to earring more calories. This numbing of our ability to taste fat can happen in just a few weeks." https://lnkd.in/e7xGG4q View in LinkedIn

ACUTE CHANGES IN TASTE RECEPTORS. "Our taste preferences may fluctuate with our hormones...many pregnant women in their first trimester can't stand the sight of vegetables...pregnant women crave foods that tend to be high energy sources." Is this hormonally regulated? Maternal biome changes occur throughout pregnancy. https://lnkd.in/eDcVrhp View in LinkedIn

ACUTE CHANGES IN BUDS. It is clear that our taste buds and their taste receptors can change acutely in short time intervals, affecting food preferences and caloric intake. The control of these changes is poorly understood. Food preferences, caloric intake, and satiety are undoubtedly controlled, at least in part, by taste receptor composition. View in LinkedIn

"JANUS PARTICLES (JPs) are noncentrosymmetric spherical, cylindrical, or disk-like colloids feauring two phase-separated faces or compartments with distinct differences in chemical and/or physical properties. Over the past two decades, JPs have drawn widespread attention in soft matter nanoscience and materials science, as nanomotors, chemical or optical sensors, for programmable self-assembly and bio-medical applications." https://lnkd.in/eEJEhhZ View in LinkedIn
