DAO DEFICIENCY TESTS. The test for DAO in serum (the histamine intolerance test), is useful in cases of suspected DAO deficiency. This can be combined with histamine analysis in blood, and a genetic test to see if it is primary DAO decency, or secondary to various drugs, inflammatory bowel disease or copper deficiency. A complete analysis. https://lnkd.in/e7SB5Wi View in LinkedIn

"DAO DEFICIENCY is an alteration in the metabolism of food histamine that appears when Diamine Oxidase (DAO) enzyme activity is low, in other words, when for some reason there is a significant deficiency in the functional activity of the main enzyme in the metabolism of histamine. https://lnkd.in/e7VaYYg View in LinkedIn

HOMOCHIRALITY. "A recent study has shown that, of the 187,941,074 recorded amino acid sites in the proteome, a mere 837 (that is, 4.5 per 1 million sites) are D-isomers. In light of such statistics it is clear that homochirality is a signature of life as we know it, and natural questions arise regarding its origins." https://lnkd.in/eXz2e82 View in LinkedIn

BIOTECH UTILITY. "Recently, the extraordinary functional plasticity of DAO has become evident; in turn, boosting research in this flavoprotein. Protein engineering has allowed for a redesign of DAO substrate specificity, oxygen affinity, cofactors binding, stability, and oligomeric state." https://lnkd.in/e6tbA9E View in LinkedIn

NATURE DEFIES CHEMISTRY. "While any chiral molecules synthesized in laboratories are always made in racemic (equal proportions of both enantiomers) mixtures, the active organic molecules in all living things are found to always comprise of one enantiomers of a chiral pair." https://lnkd.in/epR5BZe View in LinkedIn

THE "WRONG" AMINO ACIDS. "Bacteria do not produce d-serine in large quantities, but rather produce d-alanine, d-proline and d-glutamate for their cell walls. Eukaryotes, perhaps to eliminate the d-amino acids common in the prokaryotes they ingest and harbour, evolved DAO activities by elaborating on the structure of other flavin-requiring oxidases." https://lnkd.in/etGHsGm View in LinkedIn
