INFORMATION IN GENES. "The "sense of “genetic coding” is one of the best-established and least problematic ways of using informational concepts within biology." https://lnkd.in/espyFHA View in LinkedIn
SYDNEY BRENNER, while at the Cambridge MRC Unit in 1961 discussed the primary assumption that DNA contains the genetic information for protein synthesis, as do other downstream molecules like mRNA and others. https://lnkd.in/eCSzcsG View in LinkedIn
"THE CENTRAL DOGMA of molecular biology deals with the detailed residue-by-residue transfer of sequential information. It states that such information cannot be transferred from protein to either protein or nucleic acid. (Crick 1970). https://lnkd.in/eXBPqD5 View in LinkedIn
CARRIERS AND PROCESSORS. "In biology, organisms are often conceived of as informational systems, DNA as carriers of “genetic information”, and the brain is considered to be an extremely powerful information processor." https://lnkd.in/e-VqAeg View in LinkedIn
CENTRAL CURRENCY FOR FITNESS. "The quantification of the information content of genes and proteins and how this information may have evolved along the branches of the tree of life. Information is the central currency for organismal fitness, and appears to be that which increases when organisms adapt to their niche. Information about the niche is stored in genes, and used to make predictions about the future states of the environment." https://lnkd.in/ePx8EJu View in LinkedIn
INFORMATION ACQUISITION. "If inherited genetic material represents information, then how did the information-carrying molecules acquire it? Is the amount of information stored in genes increasing throughout evolution, and if so, why?" https://lnkd.in/ePx8EJu View in LinkedIn
PHYSICAL INFORMATION. "Information is often described as something that aids in decision making...One of the insights that has emerged from the theory of computation is that information must be physical—information cannot exist without a physical substrate that encodes it... In computers, information is encoded in zeros and ones, which themselves are represented by different voltages on semiconductors." https://lnkd.in/ePx8EJu View in LinkedIn
WHAT IS BIOLOGICAL INFORMATION? We may fairly assume that biological information has a structural basis. Is it the sequence of nucleotides, as in DNA, or the 3D structure, as in prions? Or perhaps it is more subtle, at a quantum mechanical level, at the level of electron spins, as researchers have been finding for selected systems. View in LinkedIn
