CORPORATE TAXES: let's get real. There are armies of top law and accounting firms who charge large suns to wealthy corporations to structure "tax efficiency", which is gobbledygook for tax avoidance. This game is played by almost all major corporations and wealthy people. Remember Mitt Romney on personal taxes? And Warren Buffet admitting he paid less taxes than his secretarial staff? This is as old as the hills, so cut the moral outrage. http://lnkd.in/2xDwRS View in LinkedIn

THE PILOT PEN from Tokyo is my favorite writing instrument, and popular worldwide. However, on more than one occasion, they have bled during air travel, to my immense distress, inking clothing and skin. I spent months reviewing the topic of reservoir vents, in the hope of finding a solution to this vexing problem. The world of vents turned out to be exquisitely fascinating. In the end by considering surface tension and geometry I devised a solution. Would anybody skilled in micro-fabrication be willing to collaborate on experiments to support a patent, and then seek a deal with Pilot? View in LinkedIn

3D PRINTED FOOD will be the new rage in garnishes and decorations. This outlandish concept was not conceived in the early IP for modern printers. They were obsessed with microprinting devices, the issues of correct vent design in tiny spaces that would not clog or leak. All a far cry from this quantum jump to printing objects. http://lnkd.in/D--kAd View in LinkedIn

BARCELONA'S SUPERCOMPUTER is perhaps the most beautiful in the world. It is located in the luxurious former Girona family estate, in a chapel built for their daughter who aspired to be a nun, next to the large family house and pond. Next door is a palace the family donated to the royal family. Inside the exquisite chapel, Mare Nostrum (Our sea), as it is called, is a humming flickering modern god with spectacular red cables, living in a huge glass case, surrounded by stained glass windows and timeless arches. Of course the entry door is located at the former altar. Is the answer 42? View in LinkedIn

US REFERENCE LABS are being challenged by the FDA for possible new regulation, and the American Clinical Lab Association has filed a Citizen's Petition disputing that the FDA has the authority to regulate them, because by definition they are not 'devices' over which the FDA does has legislative authority. The existing approval for reference labs is under the Clinical Labs Improvement Act or CLIA, and has resulted in a safe and orderly industry for many decades. How about a real problem target like the food industry. Did I mention tobacco? View in LinkedIn

PREDICTION: Computerized contact lenses to replace Google Glass? One of the lovely things about the moment of time we live in is that there are so many clever new things being developed that one is like a kid in a candy store. Take this concept. After robotic sand grains that swarm to feel a shape for 3D printing, surely computerized contact lenses are child's play? It is possible that we live today in the most technologically innovative era yet in history. http://lnkd.in/HyscMH View in LinkedIn

ANTIBIOTIC POLLUTION. Alexander Fleming changed history by discovering penicillin, earning him the Nobel Prize in 1945. But our over-zealous use of antibiotics, including in high density meat and fish production, has encouraged nasty pathogenic antibiotic-resistant bacteria. These molecules are in our food, and in most water supplies. With a thin pipeline of new antibiotics in trials, public health officials are concerned. View in LinkedIn

HEALTHCARE TRENDS: right on the money. Except for massive changes as a result of regenerative medicine (growing artificial organs and body parts in test tubes), and except for a revision of pricing of very effective biological drugs, this prediction of the future of medicine hits the spot. I would lastly add that DNA vaccines against a host of diseases will emerge as an important trend. A good read, and makes me think we will look back at our current age of medicine as a barbaric and careless wasteland. Room for great optimism. http://lnkd.in/6Wbh6P View in LinkedIn
