GENERIC DRUGS DRIVE DOWN BRAND PRICES ONLY WHEN THE IP EXPIRES, OR IS OVERTURNED. This data is hardly new. When the innovator IP has expired on a drug, the first to file generic drug typically enter the market, with 190 day exclusivity and drives down the innovator price, and gaining market share. When that exclusivity is over, several generics launch and the price erodes considerably. This is the life cycle of the Pharma industry, and its two segments: brand and generic. Today, as soon as a new drug is launched, generic companies start preparing formulations to be first to file.
