THE LEAN STARTUP METHOD is about adopting an experimental method in the search for customer access. This makes perfect sense for some companies but not for technology companies who are years away from a product and are unlikely ever to meet the customer. Specialty Pharma companies have years of formulation, preclinical testing, and eventually clinical trials to get a licensable product. Overall, the steps are pretty clear, although the outcomes are not. In these cases, a well-articulated plan of the steps and costs are valuable (flexible) roadmaps, and product forecasts will always be wrong.
