COMPLIANCE or adherence to a medication regime has long been a goal to achieve better patient outcomes. But today we add to that mix pharmacoeconomic considerations. Not just better outcomes but also cost effective outcomes. This language and approach is relatively new for American medicine, but has been part of the fabric in Britain for years. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (under the nasty acronym NICE) is an evidence based medicine agency established in 1999, to service the NHS. From 2014 it will be key for value-based pricing (cost benefit) of brand drugs in the UK. ”
