“VARIABILITY is a hallmark characteristic of quasars. Nearly all quasars vary across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, with the variability amplitude depending on timescale, wavelength, and accretion parameters (e.g., BH mass and accretion rate). This ubiquitous variability encodes critical information about the structure and dynamics of the emitting regions, as well as detailed underlying physics of accretion and feedback processes in these active SMBHs.” (SMBH = super massive black holes; BH = black hole).
