A CEO MUST LEARN TO WORK WITH THE BOARD, ACTING AS THE PEACEMAKER. It is the CEO’s job to set the tone of the company culture internally, which they do actively or by default. This includes setting the culture of the board. The CEO must encourage open discussion, defuse dissent, and be a receptive and curious listener. They should communicate frequently and take considered stands on key issues. If the inside investors are either alienated, or will not co-invest with a new round, the CEO has failed. A CEO who is divisive, political, or argumentative will hurt the company and themselves.
