ROOT CHATTER. “Infested lima bean roots in distilled water gave off a signal molecule in the water that made uninfested lima plants more attractive to mites when their roots were exposed to the experimental water. These data indicate that herbivore-infested plants may interact with undamaged neighbouring plants through chemical information that is exchanged in the soil.”
