FOOTNOTE. I am at a Synthetic Biology conference in London. All the talks are (matter-of-fact) about creating totally new life forms, totally new metabolic pathways totally new hybrid modular proteins by cut-and-paste, and making novel tissues and organs. We are now conducting directed evolution. Darwin would (possibly) be delighted. We live in exciting times. Very exciting times.
