Among vertebrates, the best studied examples of rapid senescence and death following semelparous reproduction are in fishes and marsupial mammals. Anadromous Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.), and catadromous eels (Anguilla spp.) and lampreys (Petromyzontidae) die shortly after spawning.”
