“BUD DORMANCY prevents the outgrowth of buds, for instance in perennial plants during winter or in potato tubers, whereas seed dormancy prevents the germination of intact viable seeds during (temporary) favourable conditions in an otherwise unfavourable season. Both types of dormancy are characterized by very low metabolic activities and a temporary insensitivity to growth-promoting signals.”
