LARGE FAST WINDS. “High velocity (10(2)–10(3) km s−1) energy-driven winds on large scales have been recently also studied by Bieri et al. by means of radiation-hydrodynamic simulations of isolated galactic discs. They suggest that outflow rates as high as ~10(3) M⊙ yr−1 are sustained by IR radiation, with scattering on dust grains enabling efficient momentum transfer to the gas.” (IR = infrared).
