SYNBIO FIELDS. "Studies in synthetic biology can be subdivided into broad classifications according to the approach they take to the problem at hand: (1). photocell design; (2). biomolecular engineering; (3). genome engineering; and (4). biomolecular-design." And of course, to create life from scratch. " " http://lnkd.in/TC5QS9 View in LinkedIn

SYNBIO: LIFE FROM INKJET PRINTERS. Try and explain this to your elderly relative! "Oligonucleotides harvested from a photolithographic or inkjet manufactured DNA chip combined with DNA mismatch error-correction allows inexpensive large-scale changes of codons in genetic systems to improve gene expression or incorporate novel amino-acids (see George M. Church's and Anthony Forster's synthetic cell projects.) This favors a synthesis-from-scratch approach."" " http://lnkd.in/TC5QS9 View in LinkedIn

J CRAIG VENTER digitizing life makes almost anything possible: “Digital life and actual life are getting closer and closer together. We can digitise a genome and transmit the information down the internet to a digital-biological converter, which can turn it back into DNA in a real cell.”" " http://lnkd.in/N2iWs2 View in LinkedIn

VENTER ON SYNBIO VACCINES. "Many applications are fermenting in Venter’s fertile imagination. “At some time in the future, you might have a little biological box attached to your computer,” he says. “You could use it, for example, if there is a pandemic. As soon as a vaccine is available, you could download the instructions and make it yourself, avoiding the huge delays and bottlenecks in manufacturing and distribution today.”" " http://lnkd.in/iFEVFD View in LinkedIn

SYNBIO BIZ. "The number of private and public entities conducting research in synthetic biology worldwide grew significantly between 2009 and 2013, according to the latest version of an interactive map produced by the Synthetic Biology Project at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The map...is populated with more than 500 companies, universities, research institutions and other entities working on synthetic biology."" GMO DEBATE has been muddied by Monsanto's bullying clumsiness, by lateral gene transfer and by propaganda on both sides. It is time to rationally and transparently assess the facts, since the horse has already bolted. We are on the verge of infinite possibilities of synthetic biology that frankly makes this old GMO debate quaint if it were not so fouled. . http://lnkd.in/6FDBWW View in LinkedIn

FUN BACTERIAL SYNBIO project using gene knock-out fluorescent E. Coli that had a gene insertions that won a student competition. "This system allows a lawn of bacteria to function as a biological film, such that when a projection of a specific image of light is shone on the bacteria, a highly detailed image is produced. The sheer number of bacteria in one square inch of a petri plate creates an incredible resolution for photography as well as animation."" " http://lnkd.in/TAAZaP View in LinkedIn

MIT'S TOM KNIGHT, a godfather of Synbio: "But stand back--this is the technology of the century. This is going to change how we build things. Biology is fundamentally a manufacturing technology, and we’re on the verge of figuring out how to control that. It's impossible to predict and estimate the impact of that, but it’s going to be massive."" " http://lnkd.in/ZkiS4Z View in LinkedIn
