BANTING'S COUNTER-BIOTERRORISM MISSION. "In North America, it was not the government but a dedicated individual who initiated a bioweapons research programme. Sir Frederick Banting, the Nobel-Prize-winning discoverer of insulin, created what could be called the first private biological weapon research centre in 1940, with the help of corporate sponsors." Who were those corporate sponsors and what was their motivation? BANTING AND BEST, Nobel prize winners famous for discovering insulin, were intimately involved in bacteriological warfare research, and Banting wrote a blueprint for the next two decades, "including infecting bullets and shells, rearing disease-carrying insects, and aerial spraying of deadly bacteria." In 1940, Banting started an offensive biological warfare research effort in Canada with the UK and US governments, which led to testing anthrax munitions. US MILITARY SPRAYED GERMS ON US CITIES 66 years ago in a mock biological attack on San Francisco, secretly spraying the city with Serratia, and other agents thought (erroneously) to be harmless from an offshore naval vessel. Between 1940-1960 there were similar experiments by the Pentagon on Panama City Florida, and Key West Florida, and Midwest cities. Separately, Bacillus glorified was released in San Francisco, and others on other US cities. In 1966 Bacillus subtilis was dropped in the New York subway system. SERRATIA MARCESCENS is a pathogenic bacteria involved in hospital acquired infections, but before the 1950s it was erroneously thought to be non pathogenic. The US military dispersed in over San Francisco in "Operation Sea Spray" in 1950. Eleven people died of rare UTI infections thought to be related, but unproven. BRITAIN ADMITS SECRET SPRAYING EXPERIMENTS. "Britain has recently released information on a series of secret biological warfare experiments conducted from 1940-1979. The research was being done to find out the British population's vulnerability to certain pathogens, in case the Russians were to release clouds of deadly germs over the country. Most of these experiments consisted of germ-like substitutes which had very little health risks.
