MALE PREGNANCY. "Robert Winston, a pioneer of in-vitro fertilization, told London's Sunday Times that "male pregnancy would certainly be possible" by having an embryo implanted in a man's abdomen – with the placenta attached to an internal organ such as the bowel – and later delivered by Caesarean section." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_pregnancy View in LinkedIn

HUXLEY'S ARTIFICIAL UTERUS. "In Huxley's dystopian future, children are grown in artificial wombs before being decanted into the world. It described a centrifugal pump that kept a liquid of hog's stomach extract and fetal foal’s liver moving over the placenta and driving it through a synthetic lung and waste product filter." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_uterus View in LinkedIn

"INEVITABLE": ARTIFICIAL WOMBS. "Humanity inevitably will return to the egg via “artificial wombs” that allow women the same gestating liberty as birds in the air. Critics of “ectogenesis” abound, but we’re convinced of its advantages. Synthetic uteri will spawn exciting freedoms for both genders." http://lnkd.in/dFhGRK3 View in LinkedIn

SURROGATE MECHANICAL WOMBS have an enormous, if not insuperable, barrier to overcome: the nurturing hormonal maternal environment, and the epigenetic changes by trimester, that took evolution so long to perfect, not to mention the electrophysiological intimacy with the mother. It seems unlikely that this can ever be replicated with a machine without penalty. View in LinkedIn

IMPLICATIONS FOR ARTIFICIAL WOMB. The intimate genetic, molecular and physiological relationship between embryo and the placenta, as well as with its microbiome, which modulates according to trimester, and the early fetal inoculation of its own microbiome from the vaginal passage and colostrum argue that an artificial womb would be extremely challenging. IVF EMBRYO CULTURE. "The embryo will reach the blastocyst stage once it has been cultured in adequate conditions and with the appropriate nourishing requirements on each development stage for 5 or 6 days at the laboratory. FETAL FARMING PROHIBITION ACT, 2006. "This act is a response to the idea that, at some point in the future, a technology might be developed that involved cells or tissues being removed from fetuses and used for fetal tissue implants or stem cell therapy. This proposal is controversial and has been termed "fetal farming" and "fetal organ harvesting"." http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetus_Farming_Prohibition_Act View in LinkedIn
