WHO ON DENTAL MERCURY: No. 1 source of mercury vapor in non-industrialized areas. Really, whatever were we thinking when we permitted this toxin in our mouths? 19 tons a year are polluted by the clinical waste stream in the UK alone, one third from dental amalgams. IRREVERSIBLE MERCURY CONTAMINATION. "Across the United States, mercury pollution has contaminated 18 million acres of lakes, estuaries, and wetlands (43 percent of the total), and 1.4 million river miles. From 2006 to 2008, the number of lake acres under advisory increased by 18 percent, and the number of river miles increased by 52 percent. And many waterways have not even been tested. FOULING OUR NEST."Major sources of mercury pollution in the US include coal-fired power plants, boilers, steel production, incinerators, and cement plants. Power plants are the largest source, emitting around 33 tons of mercury pollution in the US annually, and contributing to almost half of all mercury emissions.Coal is naturally contaminated with mercury. The bulk of this mercury pollution could be eliminated with the installation of relatively simple and widely-available pollution-control devices." http://lnkd.in/bg62Q8A. View in LinkedIn

MOUNTAIN OF GENOMIC DATA needs professional consensus algorithms and ease of interpretation. There are an average of 3 million gene variants per personal genome. Clinical testing is available on over 2,200 different genes or genetic conditions. This terabyte level data needs simplifying into clear and correct actionable data for patient care. This is not even considering the emerging implications of epigenetics. " " http://lnkd.in/bwMUu-g View in LinkedIn

DIGITAL MEDICINE IS HERE. "Thanks to the new technology medicine is even MORE personal. Technology changed medicine in a way we haven’t seen before – now we can use technology to monitor our vital signs (the blood pressure, heart rate, glucose level, and more) 24/7 and we can do it outside of the hospital environment, remotely. At some point that hospital environment is replaced (to some extend) by wireless devices."" " http://lnkd.in/byvebbv View in LinkedIn
